Anne Baxter (1923–1985) was an American actress awarded an Oscar and a Golden Globe, known for her work in film, Broadway, and television. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, she was the granddaughter of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. She made her Broadway debut at age 13 in Seen but Not Heard and later moved to Hollywood, where she progressed from supporting roles to leading parts.
In 1947, Baxter won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for The Razor’s Edge (1946) and received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for All About Eve (1950). She also played Queen Nefretiri in The Ten Commandments (1956). Later, she appeared on Broadway in the musical Applause and on television in series such as Batman, East of Eden, and Hotel, where she played Victoria Cabot in the early 1980s. Baxter was known as a serious character actress who valued strong roles over glamour.
