British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor (February 27, 1932 – March 23, 2011) was also a businesswoman and humanitarian. She started her professional work as a child actor in the early 1940s and became one of the most celebrated figures of classic Hollywood cinema during the 1950s. Despite disliking BUtterfield 8 (1960), which was her final project under MGM’s banner, she secured an Academy Award for Best Actress for that performance. She later became one of the first actresses paid $1 million for starring as Cleopatra (1963), marking it as one of cinema's costliest productions at that time.
