American film producer, director, and actress Heather Rae was born on October 1, 1966, in Venice, California, but spent her childhood in the mountainous region of Boise, Idaho. She has European and Cherokee ancestry. In 1990, Heather completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and multicultural studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She is married to fellow filmmaker Russell Friedenberg; they tied the knot in July 1999 and have a daughter named Johnny Sequoyah who is currently 13 years old and also works as an actress. Additionally, Heather has two adult sons named Chema and Emilio. With over twenty years of experience in the film industry, Rae has made significant contributions to Native American cinema as well as independent films.
