Rose Joan Blondell (August 30, 1906 – December 25, 1979) was an American actress who performed in movies and on television for half a century. After winning a beauty pageant, she began a film career and became known as a wisecracking blonde in Warner Bros. pictures during the pre-Code era, appearing in more than 100 films and television productions.
Most active in the 1930s, Blondell co-starred with Glenda Farrell in nine films as gold-diggers. She continued acting in major film roles throughout her life, often in smaller or supporting television roles. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Blue Veil (1951) and appeared in Grease (1978) and The Champ (1979) shortly before dying of leukemia.
