Toni Collette (born 1 November 1972) is an Australian actress and musician, recognized for her work on stage, television, and film, as well as her role as lead singer of the band Toni Collette & the Finish. She has received an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and has been nominated for an Academy Award and a Tony Award.
Collette began her acting career in the early 1990s with comedic roles in films such as Spotswood (1992) and Muriel's Wedding (1994), earning a Golden Globe nomination for the latter. She gained international recognition for her Academy Award-nominated role in The Sixth Sense (1999) and made her Tony-nominated Broadway debut in The Wild Party (2000). In the 2000s, she appeared in independent films including About a Boy (2002), winning several critics' awards and receiving a BAFTA nomination, and Little Miss Sunshine (2006), which earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award and additional Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. From 2009 to 2011, she starred in the television series United States of Tara, winning a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe. She returned to Broadway in The Realistic Joneses, receiving a Drama Desk Special Award.
