Tsvetana Pironkova (born 13 September 1987) is a Bulgarian tennis player and the current no. 1 Bulgarian in the WTA rankings. She plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Born in Plovdiv, Pironkova started playing tennis at age four, introduced to the sport by her father, who later coached her. She won six international singles titles on the ITF circuit before making her WTA tour debut at the Istanbul Cup in 2005.
In 2010, Pironkova reached the Wimbledon semifinals, becoming the second Bulgarian to reach a Grand Slam singles semifinal and achieving her highest WTA singles ranking of no. 31 that September. She reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2011 and is known for defeating Venus Williams three times at Grand Slam tournaments. Pironkova won her first WTA title at the 2014 Apia International, defeating three top-10 players consecutively. In 2016, she reached the French Open quarterfinals, beating world no. 2 Agnieszka Radwańska. She has twelve wins over top-10 ranked players and has been recognized for her grass-court skills and appearance.
