Romanian singer and songwriter Alexandra Stan (born 10 June 1989) hails from Constanța. She gained international attention with her single "Mr. Saxobeat" in 2011, crafted by producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi. The two discovered her at a karaoke venue in 2009, leading to a contract with their label, Maan Records. That same year, she released a promotional track titled "Show Me The Way," along with her debut single "Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)." "Mr. Saxobeat" quickly rose to popularity both in Romania and internationally, securing the top position on the Romanian Top 100 and achieving number one status in nine other countries, including Germany—marking it as the first Romanian song to do so since O-Zone's "Dragostea din tei" in 2004. Her subsequent release, "Get Back (ASAP)," reached number one in Slovakia and broke into the top ten across Romania, Hungary, Finland, and Czech Republic. Following this success, Saxobeats was launched as her debut studio album for global markets.

In 2013, after an alleged altercation involving Prodan, Stan’s final project under his label was released that year in Japan—a reissue of Saxobeats entitled Cliché (Hush Hush). After taking time off for recovery from these events, she signed with Fonogram Records and returned to music with her album Unlocked in August 2014. Six tracks were selected as singles from this album; notably, "Dance" reached number 25 on the Japan Hot 100 chart. Another single from Unlocked titled "Give Me Your Everything" stirred controversy due to its music video featuring Stan wearing a robe adorned with masonic symbols on its back. Her third studio effort Alesta followed suit similarly to its predecessor; it included collaborations such as “We Wanna” featuring fellow Romanian artist Inna and American reggaeton star Daddy Yankee alongside “I Did It Mama!”, which also made it into Romania's top ten.
