German tennis player Andrea Petkovic (Serbian Cyrillic: Андреа Петковић; pronounced [pêtkoʋit͡ɕ]; born 9 September 1987) was born in Tuzla, SFR Yugoslavia, to a Serbian father named Zoran and a Bosniak mother named Amira, relocating to Germany when she was six months old. Petkovic entered the professional circuit in 2006 and achieved her highest singles ranking of world number 9 in October 2011 after advancing to the quarter-finals at that year's Australian Open, French Open, and US Open. In 2012, she experienced three injuries: a back injury in January, an ankle issue in August, and a knee injury in December which sidelined her for nine months and nearly caused her to drop below the top 200 rankings. She has claimed five WTA titles along with nine ITF singles championships and three ITF doubles titles. In 2014, she won the WTA Tournament of Champions at the end of the season. Petkovic secured national championship titles for Germany in both 2007 and 2009 and is currently coached by Eric van Harpen.
