British actress Gugulethu Sophia Mbatha, commonly referred to as Gugu Mbatha-Raw (pronounced /ˈɡuːɡu ˈmʌbətə rɔː/), was born on April 21, 1983.

Active in British television and theater productions, she initially gained visibility through a recurring character in Doctor Who, portraying Tish Jones, the sibling of Martha Jones. She attracted interest in American films with a supporting part in the comedy Larry Crowne featuring Tom Hanks, along with lead roles in the short-lived series Undercovers and Touch.
