American actress, writer, and producer Jo-Issa Rae Diop, known professionally as Issa Rae, was born on January 12, 1985. Rae initially attracted attention through her YouTube series Awkward Black Girl. Rae gained broader visibility as the co-creator, co-writer, and lead in the HBO series Insecure (2016–present), for which she received several nominations for Golden Globe Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards.
