American singer-songwriter Carly Elisabeth Simon (born June 25, 1945) is also recognized as a musician and author of children's literature. She gained prominence during the 1970s with numerous successful tracks; her collection includes 13 Top 40 hits in the U.S., such as "Anticipation" (No. 13), "You Belong To Me" (No. 6), "Coming Around Again" (No. 18), along with four Gold certified songs: "Jesse" (No. 11), "Mockingbird" (No. 5)—a collaboration with James Taylor—"You're So Vain" (No. 1), and "Nobody Does It Better" (No. 2) from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me released in 1977.

Following a brief period performing with her sister Lucy Simon as part of the duo known as the Simon Sisters, she achieved considerable success as a solo performer starting with her self-titled debut album Carly Simon in 1971, which earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and included her first Top Ten hit, "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be." Her third album No Secrets propelled her to global fame, topping the Billboard 200 chart for five weeks and featuring the international hit “You're So Vain,” earning three Grammy nominations including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Throughout her career, Simon has accumulated a total of 24 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and another 28 on Billboard Adult Contemporary charts while receiving two Grammy Awards. AllMusic described Simon as one of the essential singer-songwriters from that era. Her vocal range is classified as contralto.

For her song “Let the River Run” featured in Working Girl released in 1988, Simon became distinguished for being the first individual artist to win an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award for work entirely composed and performed by herself. In recognition of her contributions to music, she was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame in1994 and received an induction into Grammy Hall of Fame for “You're So Vain” in2004; additionally awarded ASCAP Founders Award in2012. In1995and1998 respectively,she was honored at Boston Music Awards Lifetime Achievement eventand received an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

Simon was previously married to fellow singer-songwriter James Taylor; together they have two children who are also musicians: Sarah "Sally" Maria Taylor and Benjamin "Ben" Simon Taylor.
