American actress Jane Fonda (originally Jayne Seymour Fonda; born December 21, 1937) is also a writer, political activist, former fashion model, and fitness expert. She has received two Academy Awards and two BAFTA Awards. In 2014, she was honored with the American Film Institute AFI Life Achievement Award.

Fonda made her debut on Broadway in the play There Was a Little Girl in 1960, which earned her a Tony Award nomination. Later that same year, she appeared on screen for the first time in Tall Story. Her popularity surged during the 1960s with films like Period of Adjustment (1962), Sunday in New York (1963), Cat Ballou (1965), Barefoot in the Park (1967), and Barbarella (1968). She was married to Roger Vadim, who directed Barbarella. A nominee for an Academy Award seven times overall, she garnered her initial nomination for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) and won Best Actress Oscars in the 1970s for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978). Other nominations came from Julia (1977), The China Syndrome (1979), On Golden Pond (1981), and The Morning After (1986). Among her other competitive accolades are an Emmy Award for the TV film The Dollmaker in 1984, two BAFTAs for Julia and The China Syndrome respectively, along with four Golden Globe Awards.

In 1982, she launched her first exercise video titled Jane Fonda's Workout; it became one of the best-selling videos at that time. This marked the beginning of a series totaling 22 workout videos released over a span of thirteen years that collectively sold more than 17 million copies. After divorcing Tom Hayden—her second husband—she wed media magnate Ted Turner in 1991 before stepping away from acting entirely; they divorced in 2001. She returned to cinema after fifteen years with Monster-in-Law released in 2005 followed by films such as Georgia Rule (2007), The Butler (2013), This Is Where I Leave You (2014), and Youth (2015). In addition to returning to Broadway after forty-five years absence with a performance in the play 33 Variations—which earned her another Tony nomination—she had a recurring role on HBO's drama series The Newsroom from 2012 to 2014 which led to two Emmy nominations as well. Between 2010 and 2012 she produced five additional exercise videos as well. Currently, she stars alongside Lily Tomlin and Martin Sheen on Netflix’s original show Grace and Frankie since its debut in 2015.

Fonda has been an outspoken political advocate since the counterculture movement during Vietnam War times while recently focusing on women's rights advocacy initiatives. Her controversial visit to Hanoi included being photographed seated atop an anti-aircraft gun back in early ’72. Additionally involved against Iraq War protests as well as violence targeting women’s issues—she identifies herself as feminist-oriented too! In collaboration with Robin Morgan & Gloria Steinem founded Women’s Media Center—a group aimed at enhancing female voices within media through various methods including advocacy work/media training/original content creation—in mid-2005 where now serves board member position thereof among other duties too! An autobiography published later that same year was soon followed up by memoir Prime Time issued out into public domain around late-’11.
