American actress Jayne Mansfield (originally Vera Jayne Palmer; April 19, 1933 – June 29, 1967) was active in film, theater, and television. She rose to prominence on Broadway in 1955, transitioned to a leading role in Hollywood by 1956, and became a well-known figure by 1957. In addition to her acting career, she worked as a nightclub performer, vocalist, and was among the first Playboy Playmates. Mansfield emerged as a key sex symbol during the late 1950s and early 1960s for Hollywood and was featured prominently at 20th Century Fox alongside Marilyn Monroe. Her personal life often attracted media attention due to various publicity stunts.

Although her time in films was relatively brief, Mansfield achieved multiple commercial hits and received both a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe. She found success portraying fictional actress Rita Marlowe in both the Broadway production from 1955–1956 and its subsequent film adaptation of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? released in 1957. Other significant roles included performances in The Girl Can't Help It (1956), The Wayward Bus (1957), and Too Hot to Handle (1960). In the provocative film Promises! Promises! (1963), she became the first prominent American actress to take on a nude lead role within mainstream cinema. Her stage name derived from her first spouse, public relations expert Paul Mansfield. Tragically, she lost her life in an automobile accident at age 34 along with two other individuals.
