American actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, originally named Jennifer Leigh Morrow and born on February 5, 1962, is also a writer, producer, and director. Leigh commenced her professional work as a young adult in the 1970s with guest appearances on various television programs. She gained significant attention in film in 1982 for her role as Stacy Hamilton in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Continuing her career beyond adolescence, she received acclaim for performances in the 1990 films Miami Blues and Last Exit to Brooklyn. In 1991, she featured in Ron Howard's Backdraft and acted in the thriller Single White Female the following year.

In 1993, Leigh participated in Robert Altman's ensemble film Short Cuts and starred in The Hudsucker Proxy by the Coen brothers in 1994. For her depiction of Dorothy Parker in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994), she earned a Golden Globe nomination.
