American singer, songwriter, actress, producer, and television personality Keyshia M. Cole (born October 15, 1981) hails from Oakland, California. She initiated her professional journey at the age of 12 after meeting MC Hammer and later encountered rapper Tupac Shakur. At 18 years old, she relocated to Los Angeles where she was subsequently signed by A&M Records. Her first album, The Way It Is (2005), featured five singles: "Never", "I Changed My Mind", "(I Just Want It) To Be Over", "I Should Have Cheated", and "Love". This debut was certified gold within just 17 weeks and achieved platinum status eight weeks later. The album remained on the charts for over a year with sales exceeding 1.6 million copies.

Following the closure of A&M Records, Cole released her second studio album Just like You (2007) under Geffen Records. This album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and received a nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album during the 50th Grammy Awards. Certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, it has sold approximately 1.7 million copies in the United States. Cole's third release A Different Me came out in 2008 and also debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales reaching 322,000—the highest launch week figures of her career—resulting in platinum certification by RIAA. Her fourth project Calling All Hearts was released on December 21, 2010 in America; it peaked at number nine on Billboard with initial sales totaling around 129,000 copies and reached cumulative sales of about 400,000 as recorded in November 2012.

Cole’s fifth studio work Woman to Woman (2012) entered at number ten on the Billboard chart following first-week sales of approximately 96,000—lower than previous releases—and reported total sales of about329,000 copies as noted in September of that year. Following Geffen's dissolution, her sixth effort Point of No Return launched through Interscope Records on October 7, 2014 but did not perform well commercially with fewer than 45 thousand units sold marking it as her least successful album.

In addition to music endeavors, Cole has participated in reality television projects such as Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is which aired on BET from 2006 until 2008 offering insights into both her career trajectory and personal life involving family dynamics with her biological mother and sister. She launched another reality series titled Family First which premiered on October 9 of 2012 followed by Keyshia Cole: All In that started airing on February 24​of ​2015.
