German singer, songwriter, and model Kim Petras (born 27 August 1992) is currently residing in Los Angeles. Since 2016, she has been producing music independently under her own label, BunHead Records.

Petras began her musical journey during her teenage years, debuting with the extended play One Piece of Tape in 2011. She launched her first single as an independent artist in 2017, the Dr. Luke-produced track "I Don't Want It at All," which achieved high placements on various viral music charts on Spotify. This was followed by Billboard-charting hits such as "Feeling of Falling" (with Cheat Codes), "Heart to Break," and "1, 2, 3 Dayz Up" (featuring Sophie).

After gaining initial traction, Petras issued a series of digital singles that formed what is known informally as Era 1. On October 1, 2018, she released the novelty EP Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1 themed around Halloween. Her debut studio album Clarity came out on June 28, 2019. The album launch was preceded by a nine-week promotional effort where Petras shared one single weekly along with a visual video for each release. Clarity peaked at number seven on the Heatseekers Chart and reached number twenty-six on the Independent Albums chart.
