Travis was born in London, England, and relocated to Australia with her family shortly after. She worked as a model for various agencies across Paris, London, and New York before transitioning into acting. Her first significant role was in the Aaron Spelling soap opera Models Inc., where she portrayed Julie, a complex character balancing loyalty and vindictiveness. Following the cancellation of the series, Darren Star, who created Melrose Place—a spin-off of Models Inc.—invited her to join his new prime-time drama Central Park West as Rachel Dennis, a fashion editor with ulterior motives.

She subsequently appeared in several films such as Retroactive and Gia.

Travis is married to Louis R. Cappelli, a property developer active in Westchester County, New York. She stepped away from acting soon after.
