She is the offspring of Steven Tyler, the lead vocalist of Aerosmith, and actress Cyrinda Foxe. Mia has a paternal half-sister named Liv Tyler, whose mother is Bebe Buell, a singer and model. In 1979, her father composed a track titled after her that appeared on Aerosmith's album "Night in the Ruts".

Mia was previously married to Dave Buckner, who played drums for Papa Roach, and had an engagement with guitarist Brian Harrah. She currently resides in New York City.
