German-American actress Cosma Shiva Hagen (born May 17, 1981, in Los Angeles, California) is the offspring of new wave and punk vocalist Nina Hagen and musician Ferdinand Karmelk. Her maternal grandmother is actress Eva-Maria Hagen, and her step-grandfather is Wolf Biermann, a writer known for his opposition to East German policies. In the 1970s, Eva-Maria Hagen was permitted to move to West Germany. The unique name "Cosma" derives from Cosmos, while "Shiva" references the Hindu deity Shiva; both were chosen by her mother after claiming to have witnessed a UFO during pregnancy.

Outside of German-speaking regions, Shiva remains relatively obscure. Despite her proficiency in English, she has primarily appeared in films and television shows produced in German. She also had a role in an Irish film titled Short Order (2005).

Having been born in Los Angeles, California, Shiva is fluent in German as well as English, French, and Spanish. Throughout her childhood, Cosma Shiva resided in various locations including London, Berlin, Paris, Ibiza; attended boarding school in Lüneburg; and currently lives in Hamburg.
