British actress and Labour Party politician Glenda May Jackson, CBE (born 9 May 1936), began her political career as a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1992, representing Hampstead and Kilburn until 2015.

Starting her acting career in the late 1950s, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for four years beginning in 1964, often collaborating with director Peter Brook. Throughout her film career, she received two Academy Awards for Best Actress: for Women in Love (1969) and A Touch of Class (1973). Her other acclaimed performances include Alex in Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) and the BBC series Elizabeth R (also from 1971), where she was awarded a Primetime Emmy Award.

Jackson served as the MP for Hampstead and Highgate from 1992 to 2010. During Tony Blair's government, she held the position of Junior Transport minister from 1997 to 1999 but later expressed criticism toward Blair. Following constituency boundary adjustments ahead of the general election in 2010, her victory margin of just 42 votes was among the narrowest outcomes that year. In 2011, she declared her intention to retire from parliamentary service at the upcoming general election in 2015.
