American socialite Jacqueline Lee "Jackie" Kennedy Onassis (née Bouvier, pronounced /ˈdʒækliɪn ˈbuːvi.eɪ/; born July 28, 1929 – died May 19, 1994) was married to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, and served as First Lady from 1961 until his assassination in 1963.

Bouvier was the first daughter of Wall Street broker John Vernou Bouvier III and socialite Janet Lee Bouvier. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French literature from George Washington University in 1951 and subsequently began her career as an inquisitive photographer at the Washington Times-Herald.

In 1952, she encountered Congressman John F. Kennedy during a dinner gathering. Shortly thereafter, he won election to the United States Senate, and they wed the following year. After his funeral services concluded, she chose to retreat from public life and married Aristotle Onassis in 1968.

After her second husband's passing in 1975, she worked as a book editor for nearly twenty years until her death. Her legacy includes contributions to artistic endeavors and historic architecture preservation alongside recognition for her fashion sense and poise. She became known for iconic attire; particularly memorable is her pink Chanel suit paired with a matching pillbox hat which has become emblematic of her husband's assassination and one of the defining images of the era's style landscape. In surveys conducted by Gallup in 1999, she appeared on lists recognizing influential individuals admired throughout American history.
