English singer and songwriter Jessica Ellen Cornish, known professionally as Jessie J, was born on 27 March 1988 in London. She commenced her professional journey at the age of 11 with a performance in the West End production Whistle Down the Wind. Following her education at the BRIT School, she signed with Gut Records and entered into a songwriting agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where she contributed songs for various artists such as Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus.
