English actress, author, and columnist Dame Joan Henrietta Collins, DBE (born 23 May 1933), hails from Paddington in west London and was raised in Maida Vale during the Second World War. She made her initial stage appearance at nine in A Doll's House and subsequently received training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) located in London. Following her education, she entered into an exclusive agreement with the Rank Organisation, appearing in a range of British films.

At 22 years old, Collins moved to Hollywood where she took on alluring roles in several well-received films such as The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955) and Rally Round the Flag, Boys! (1958). While continuing her film career across both the United States and UK throughout the 1960s, she guest starred as Edith Keeler on an episode of Star Trek titled "The City on the Edge of Forever" released in 1967. Her professional momentum slowed down during the 1970s when she acted in various horror films. Towards that decade's conclusion, she featured prominently in two adult-themed movies derived from best-selling novels by her sister Jackie Collins: The Stud (1978) and its follow-up The Bitch (1979).

Collins returned to theater performing as Mrs. Cheyney in a British revival of The Last of Mrs. Cheyney during 1980 before taking on a lead role again for Noël Coward's Private Lives revival in 1990. In 1981, she secured a role portraying Alexis Carrington Colby—the vindictive ex-wife character alongside John Forsythe—in Dynasty, an influential soap opera from the '80s; this performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 1982. She is often credited with contributing to Dynasty's popularity as it became America's most-viewed television program during the broadcast season spanning 1984-85. Additionally, Collins received recognition with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her achievements within her career back in 1983.

Since around late-1970s onwards, Collins has authored numerous works including beauty guides and autobiographical writings. Her first novel Prime Time was published in 1988 followed by continued releases across diverse writing genres.
