Following a series of minor television roles, Margulies gained both critical acclaim and commercial success as Carol Hathaway in NBC's enduring medical series ER, earning an Emmy for her performance. She also provided the voice for Neera in Dinosaur (2000) and featured in the miniseries The Mists of Avalon (2001). In 2009, she starred as Alicia Florrick in CBS's legal drama The Good Wife, where she received a Golden Globe, a Television Critics Association Award, and two additional Emmy Awards for her lead role.
