American singer, songwriter, and dancer Kathleen Emperatriz "Kat" DeLuna (born November 26, 1987) hails from The Bronx and has Dominican heritage. She started her journey as a vocalist during her teenage years. After inking a deal with Epic Records, she debuted with the single "Whine Up" in 2007. This track achieved commercial success, making it into the Top 40 across multiple nations and reaching the pinnacle of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Her first studio album, titled 9 Lives (2007), did not replicate the success of its leading single; however, its third release, "Run the Show," gained traction in several markets and peaked at number two on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Following her initial album's performance, DeLuna parted ways with Epic Records. She continued to produce music through collaborations and soundtrack contributions. Subsequently, she embarked on creating her second studio project, Inside Out (2010), which saw a limited launch via Universal Music Belgium. The album featured several singles such as "Unstoppable," "Push Push," and "Dancing Tonight," featuring Lil Wayne, Akon, and Fo Onassis respectively. A North American version of this album named Viva was planned for release that same year but ultimately did not occur. Currently, DeLuna is engaged in developing her third studio record expected to be available in 2015.

In recognition of her work in 2007, DeLuna received the title of "Best New Artist" at Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica awards that year. She followed this achievement by winning both "Best New Artist" and "Best Urban Artist" categories at the TMF Awards in 2008. Her hit single "Whine Up" was honored as "Latin Dance Club Play Track Of The Year" at the Latin Billboard Music Awards also held that year. Additionally, she secured a Casandra Award for “Best International Artist” in 2008.
