American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal (born November 16, 1977) is the daughter of filmmakers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs, and the older sibling of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She initiated her film career in her teenage years with appearances in projects directed by her father and collaborated with her brother on the psychological thriller Donnie Darko (2001). Her portrayal of Lee Holloway in Secretary (2002) received critical acclaim, earning her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award. In Sherrybaby (2006), she was again nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. Additionally, she gained attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight (2008). For her work in Crazy Heart (2009), she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
