Canadian American actress and activist Margaret Ruth "Margot" Kidder (born October 17, 1948) gained prominence in 1978 for her portrayal of Lois Lane in Superman alongside Christopher Reeve, returning to the character in the subsequent three sequels. Kidder initiated her professional work during the 1960s with roles in budget-friendly Canadian films and TV shows, eventually securing a leading role in Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx (1970).

She subsequently performed as Siamese twins in Brian De Palma's cult classic Sisters (1973); appeared in the horror film Black Christmas (1974); and acted alongside Robert Redford in the drama The Great Waldo Pepper (1975). Her role as Kathy Lutz in the hit horror movie The Amityville Horror (1979) provided her with additional mainstream visibility.

Following a widely covered manic episode and breakdown in 1996, Kidder's career experienced a decline. However, by the 2000s, she had continued to find consistent opportunities within independent cinema and television, including guest appearances on Smallville, Brothers & Sisters, and The L Word. In 2015, she was awarded an Emmy for her work on R.L. Stine's children's series The Haunting Hour. Additionally, she has participated in theater productions, most notably featuring on Broadway during a 2002 staging of The Vagina Monologues.

In 2005, Kidder obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization. She is known for her strong views on political issues as well as environmental concerns and anti-war efforts. Furthermore, she has promoted orthomolecular medicine which she claims has aided her management of bipolar disorder.
