American actress and singer Mary Nell Steenburgen (born February 8, 1953) achieved an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Lynda Dummar in Jonathan Demme's film Melvin and Howard, released in 1980.

Steenburgen trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York during the 1970s. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the 1981 film Ragtime, received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for the miniseries Tender is the Night in 1985, and earned an Emmy nomination for the television movie The Attic: The Hiding of Anne Frank from 1988.
