American actress Melissa Ann McCarthy (born August 26, 1970) is also known for her work as a comedian, writer, fashion designer, and producer. She started her career in television and film during the late 1990s, gaining widespread visibility for her portrayal of Sookie St. James on the series Gilmore Girls (2000–2007).
