American alpine skier Mikaela Pauline Shiffrin (born March 13, 1995) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and competitor in the World Cup circuit. Currently, she holds the title of Overall World Cup champion for two consecutive seasons, as well as being a three-time world champion in slalom and achieving five titles in that specific World Cup discipline. At just 18 years and 345 days old, Shiffrin became the youngest athlete to win an Olympic slalom championship in alpine skiing history. Her victory in the giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics marked her second Olympic gold, allowing her to equal Ted Ligety's and Andrea Mead Lawrence's records for American Olympians with the most gold medals in alpine skiing. She is among only five Americans who have claimed the overall World Cup title. Furthermore, she is recognized as the first athlete—regardless of gender—to secure wins across all six disciplines of FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events. Her victories span ladies' slalom, parallel slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill, and alpine combined events. Shiffrin also made history by becoming the youngest skier—male or female—to achieve 50 World Cup race victories at age 23 years and 9 months.
