American writer, actress, and comedian Mindy Kaling (born June 24, 1979), originally named Vera Mindy Chokalingam.

Kaling gained attention for her role as creator, writer, producer, and star of the sitcom The Mindy Project on Fox/Hulu from 2012 to 2017. She also contributed significantly to the NBC series The Office from 2005 to 2013, where she played Kelly Kapoor. Beyond her acting duties on the show, she served as a writer, executive producer, and directed several episodes during much of its airing. Her contributions earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series in 2010. In 2017, NBC commissioned Champions with Kaling as co-creator, writer, and producer; she is set to appear regularly on this program which debuted on March 8, 2018. Kaling's filmography includes voice roles in Despicable Me (2010), Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Inside Out (2015), along with leading performances in the fantasy adventure A Wrinkle in Time and heist-comedy Ocean's 8—both released in 2018.

Aside from her television and film projects, Kaling has authored two memoirs that reached New York Times best-seller status: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and Why Not Me?.
