German journalist Sandra Maischberger (born 25 August 1966) is also a talk show host and author. She has a sibling, Martin Maischberger, who is an archeologist.

Maischberger was born in Munich and spent part of her childhood in Frascati, Italy, before returning to Garching near Munich. Her father worked as a physicist with the Max Planck Society while her mother served as a tour guide. During her youth, she considered careers in veterinary medicine or law enforcement. From 1987 to 1989, she received training at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich School of Journalism. While there, she began her professional work at Bayerischer Rundfunk and has since contributed to various networks such as Premiere, RTL, VOX, n-tv, and ARD.

She has authored multiple publications including Hand aufs Herz (an interview with Helmut Schmidt) and Die musst Du kennen — Menschen machen Geschichte, which serves as an encyclopedia detailing influential scientists, artists, and politicians from ancient times to contemporary figures.

Maischberger's work has garnered numerous accolades including the Golden Camera awarded by the German magazine Hörzu for her interview with Helmut Schmidt. She is married to cameraman Jan Kerhart; they welcomed their first child together—a son named Samuel—on February 24, 2007 after twelve years of marriage. The family maintains residences in both Hamburg and Berlin. In addition to traveling extensively, Maischberger enjoys mountain climbing and diving activities. In 2008, she established Vincentino—a foundation dedicated to providing underprivileged children access to arts through cultural projects within educational institutions. Additionally, she supports initiatives led by the Freya von Moltke Foundation and Kreisau Initiative focused on enhancing opportunities for younger generations across Europe.

In 2001, alongside other notable individuals from Berlin’s creative community, Maischberger participated in Buddy Bear Berlin Show—a street art initiative where proceeds from bear auctions were allocated towards children's programs in Berlin. The bear crafted by Maischberger pays tribute to Niki de Saint Phalle’s sculptures; it was auctioned off in 2003 at Mercedes World located at Salzufer in Berlin generating over €171,000 for charity purposes. This particular bear can now be viewed at a museum situated in Bad Pyrmont.
