Canadian actress, writer, director, producer, and political activist Sarah Polley (born January 8, 1979) initially gained recognition as a child performer portraying Ramona Quimby in the television adaptation of Beverly Cleary's works. This opportunity led to her portrayal of Sara Stanley in the Canadian series Road to Avonlea from 1990 to 1996. Her filmography includes various feature films such as Exotica (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), Guinevere (1999), Go (1999), The Weight of Water (2000), My Life Without Me (2003), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Splice (2009), and Mr. Nobody (2009).

Polley made her directorial debut with Away from Her in 2006, where she received a Genie Award for Best Achievement in Direction and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Her second directorial effort, Take This Waltz, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011. In addition, her first documentary feature Stories We Tell was honored with a $100,000 award for best Canadian film by the Toronto Film Critics Association in 2012.
