American actress and film producer Sigourney Weaver (born Susan Alexandra Weaver; October 8, 1949) began her career with a small part in Annie Hall (1977) before rising to fame in 1979 with her leading performance as Ellen Ripley in Alien. She reprised this role in three follow-up films: Aliens (1986), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress; Alien 3 (1992); and Alien: Resurrection (1997). Additionally, she is recognized for her lead roles in popular films such as Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II (1989), and Avatar (2009).

Weaver earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for the Off-Broadway production Das Lusitania Songspiel in 1980, and was nominated for a Tony Award due to her performance in the Broadway play Hurlyburly from 1984.
