English actress and producer Suranne Jones (born Sarah Anne Jones; 27 August 1978) gained prominence with her role as Karen McDonald on the ITV1 soap Coronation Street, which began in 2001. After departing from the series in 2004, she continued her acting journey through various television dramas such as Vincent (2005–06), Strictly Confidential (2006), Harley Street (2008), Five Days (2010), and Single Father (2010). Her portrayal of Ruth Slater, a convicted murderer, in the mini-series Unforgiven (2009) received critical acclaim and is often regarded as a pivotal moment in her career.

From 2011 to 2016, Jones took on the lead role of Detective Rachel Bailey in Scott & Bailey, a police procedural drama that originated from an idea developed by both Jones and fellow actress Sally Lindsay.
