English actress Susannah York (9 January 1939 – 15 January 2011) was active in film, stage, and television. She received a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), and also earned nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the same role. At the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, she took home the award for best actress for Images. In 1991, she was honored as an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Her roles in several popular films during the 1960s established her global standing; an obituary published by The Telegraph described her as "the blue-eyed English rose with china-white skin and cupid lips who embodied the allure of the swinging Sixties."
