American model Bettie Mae Page (April 22, 1923 – December 11, 2008) became widely recognized in the 1950s for her pin-up photography. Often called the "Queen of Pinups," her distinctive black hair, blue eyes, and signature bangs have left a lasting impact on artists through the years.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Page spent part of her early adulthood in California before relocating to New York City to seek opportunities as an actress. It was here that she began modeling as a pin-up and collaborated with numerous photographers throughout the 1950s. Page was featured as "Miss January 1955," one of the first Playmates of the Month for Playboy magazine. Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy, remarked to the Associated Press in 2008 about her influence: "I think that she was a remarkable lady, an iconic figure in pop culture who influenced sexuality and taste in fashion; someone who had a tremendous impact on our society."

In 1959, Page embraced evangelical Christianity and worked alongside Billy Graham while attending Bible colleges located in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon. Her later years were characterized by struggles with depression and mood instability, leading to several years spent at a psychiatric facility due to paranoid schizophrenia. After experiencing a period of obscurity, she saw a revival of interest during the 1980s.
