French actress, singer, and fashion model Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot (born 28 September 1934) later transitioned into animal rights activism. She was a prominent sex symbol during the 1950s and 1960s and was often referred to by her initials, B.B.

Bardot initially pursued ballet in her youth. She commenced her acting journey in 1952. After appearing in 16 comedy films with limited global reach, she gained international fame in 1957 for her role in the provocative film And God Created Woman. This performance attracted the attention of French intellectual circles. Simone de Beauvoir's essay from 1959, The Lolita Syndrome, discussed Bardot as a "locomotive of women's history," utilizing existentialist concepts to label her as the first liberated woman of post-war France. Subsequently, she appeared in Jean-Luc Godard's 1963 movie Le Mépris. For her contribution to Louis Malle's film Viva Maria! released in 1965, Bardot received a BAFTA nomination for Best Foreign Actress.
