British actress Carey Hannah Mulligan (born 28 May 1985) started her professional work on stage in London with the Kevin Elyot production Forty Winks in 2004. Her first appearance in a feature film was as Kitty Bennet in the 2005 cinematic adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Mulligan's early television roles included parts in British series such as Bleak House and Doctor Who. In 2008, she made her debut on Broadway in a revival of Chekhov's The Seagull, which received critical acclaim.

Mulligan gained considerable visibility for her role in An Education (2009). Portraying Jenny Mellor, inspired by journalist Lynn Barber’s memoirs, she received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award while winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. In 2015, she earned a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play due to her performance in the Broadway revival of David Hare's Skylight. Additionally, Mulligan is recognized for her performances in films including Never Let Me Go (2010), Drive (2011), Shame (2011), The Great Gatsby (2013), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015), and Suffragette (2015).

Mulligan serves as an ambassador for both the Alzheimer's Society and War Child. She is married to musician Marcus Mumford from Britain, and they have one daughter together.
