American actress Carroll Baker (born May 28, 1931) is a retired performer known for her work in film, theater, and television. During the 1950s and 1960s, Baker portrayed a variety of characters ranging from innocent young women to bold and extravagant figures, establishing herself as both a dramatic talent and a recognized blonde bombshell. In 1954, while on Broadway, she was chosen by director Elia Kazan to star in Tennessee Williams's Baby Doll (1956). Her portrayal of a sexually-repressed Southern bride garnered her instant fame and resulted in BAFTA and Academy Award nominations for Best Actress, along with a Golden Globe win for Most Promising Newcomer that same year.

Other significant early performances included roles in Giant (1956) and But Not for Me (1959), as well as western films like The Big Country (1958), How the West Was Won (1962), and Cheyenne Autumn (1964). By the mid-1960s, Baker became widely regarded as a sex symbol through her appearances in The Carpetbaggers (1964), Sylvia (1965), and Harlow (1965). She moved to Italy in 1966 amid contractual disputes with Paramount Pictures, spending the next decade acting in intense horror movies and giallo thrillers such as Umberto Lenzi's Paranoia (1969) and Knife of Ice (1972), before returning to American audiences as a character actress in Andy Warhol's cult classic Bad (1977).

Baker maintained an active presence on television throughout the 1980s and 1990s with roles on series including Murder, She Wrote; L.A. Law; and Roswell. She also appeared in supporting roles within films like Ironweed (1987), Kindergarten Cop (1990), and The Game (1997). She officially ended her acting career in 2002.
