Chicago artist Barbara Rossi, born in 1940, is recognized as a founding member of the Chicago Imagists, an influential collective active during the 1960s and 1970s known for their focus on representational art. Her initial exhibition with this group took place at the Hyde Park Art Center in 1969. Rossi's artistic style features detailed drawings and whimsical paintings. She primarily creates reverse paintings on plexiglass that draw inspiration from lowbrow art, outsider art, and her own unique vernacular.

Rossi serves as an educator at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has showcased her work internationally, with pieces included in collections at prominent institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago; Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin; Milwaukee Museum of Contemporary Art; Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; David and Alfred Smart Museum at the University of Chicago; and Smithsonian American Art Museum located in Washington, DC.
