American R&B, pop, and gospel singer Tenitra Michelle Williams (born July 23, 1980) gained prominence in the early 2000s as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, one of the highest-selling female ensembles with over 60 million records sold globally, including more than 35 million copies during her tenure with the trio. In 1999, following the departures of previous members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, Williams became the oldest addition to the group at age 20. During their break from recording, she launched her solo career with her debut album Heart to Yours (2002), which reached number one on the US gospel charts and was recognized as that year's best-selling gospel release. In addition to this success, Billboard named her fifth Top Gospel Artist for that year and she received a MOBO Award for "Best Gospel Act," along with three Grammy nominations for work on this album including Best Gospel Album. She followed up with Do You Know (2004), earning another nomination for "Best Gospel Act" at the MOBO Awards.

After Destiny's Child disbanded in 2005, Williams released her first pop record titled Unexpected (2008), featuring internationally successful singles like "We Break the Dawn" and "The Greatest," which topped US Dance charts. Her fourth studio effort Journey to Freedom (2014) was well-received and marked her highest chart position in the US; it included lead single "If We Had Your Eyes," which made it into the top 20 of US Adult R&B charts, alongside international hit "Say Yes," which dominated US Hot Gospel Songs for seven weeks. Journey to Freedom earned a nomination for Outstanding Gospel Album at the NAACP Image Awards' 46th event and led to four nominations at Stellar Awards’ annual ceremony where she won Music Video of the Year for "Say Yes." In 2015, Williams performed for U.S. President Barack Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama at an event held in The White House.

Williams has also achieved recognition as an actress in television and stage productions both on Broadway and West End theatre. She received a nomination for "Best Lead Female – Equity" at the NAACP Theatre Awards'18th Annual event in 2008. After making her acting debut on Broadway in Aida (2003), she appeared in sitcom Half & Half (2006) along with musical performances such as The Color Purple (2007), Chicago (2009–10), What My Husband Doesn't Know (2011), and Fela! (2013). Additionally, she served as a judge on MTV’s Top Pop Group competition series while participating as a contestant on series eight of Strictly Come Dancing; co-starring alongside Deitrick Haddon in Oxygen’s reality show Fix My Choir. Throughout her career thus far, she has accumulated numerous awards including a Grammy Award plus recognition on Hollywood Walk of Fame shared with Destiny's Child; additionally securing a solo MOBO Award along with various Stellar accolades.
