Estonian vocalist Triinu Kivilaan (born January 13, 1989, in Viljandi, Estonia) is recognized for her previous role as a member of the girl group Vanilla Ninja. She transitioned from modeling to music in 2004 when she took over bass duties from Maarja Kivi after having met the other band members a year prior. A contributing factor to her selection was reportedly the resemblance between her and Kivi’s looks. As the youngest member of the group by several years, Kivilaan managed to pursue her education alongside Vanilla Ninja's demanding schedule.

Upon joining Vanilla Ninja, the group had already been selected to represent Switzerland at Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Her inclusion posed a challenge for their participation due to her being only 15 years old; following instances like Sandra Kim winning in 1986, Eurovision established an age limit requiring participants to be at least 16. Initially, Kivilaan stated that she was 17; however, Swiss officials raised doubts and confirmed her actual age. For some time it seemed that they might have to withdraw from competition, but since she would turn 16 four months before the event, approval was granted by the European Broadcasting Union for them to compete.

Kivilaan ultimately departed from Vanilla Ninja in December 2005 while Lenna Kuurmaa, Katrin Siska, and Piret Järvis chose to continue as a trio. The group's announcement indicated that she left by "mutual consent," attributing creative differences as the primary reason for this decision.

During her tenure with Vanilla Ninja, Triinu primarily contributed backing vocals and basic instrumentation rather than taking on lead roles despite replacing their original frontwoman. Her involvement during live performances often kept her apart from the other three members during their semi-final and final acts at Eurovision Song Contest 2005. She also appeared infrequently in music videos except for "When The Indians Cry," where she had a more significant presence.

Following her exit from Vanilla Ninja, Triinu expressed intentions of re-entering the music scene as a solo artist after completing her education.
