Scottish actress Tilda Swinton, born Katherine Matilda Swinton on 5 November 1960 in Kimmerghame, is recognized for her work across arthouse and mainstream cinema as well as her roles in performance art and modeling.

She commenced her film career with projects helmed by Derek Jarman, beginning with the movie Caravaggio released in 1985. In 1991, she received the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival due to her role as Isabella of France in Edward II. Following this, she played a leading role in Sally Potter's Orlando in 1992 and received a nomination for the European Film Award for Best Actress.

In 2001, she garnered a Golden Globe nomination for her work in The Deep End. This was succeeded by roles in Vanilla Sky (2001) and Adaptation (2002). She later featured prominently in Julia (2008), I Am Love (2009), and the psychological thriller We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011). Additionally, she appeared in the dark romantic fantasy drama Only Lovers Left Alive (2014) and is also known for portraying the White Witch within the Chronicles of Narnia films.

Swinton was awarded an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress along with a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role following her portrayal of attorney Karen Crowder in Michael Clayton (2007). Her filmography includes appearances such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Burn After Reading (2008), Moonrise Kingdom (2012), Snowpiercer (2013), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), Trainwreck (2015), and A Bigger Splash (2015). She is set to appear as the Ancient One in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange film.

In recognition of her impact on British cinema, Swinton received the Richard Harris Award from the British Independent Film Awards in 2005. In 2013, she was honored with a special tribute from the Museum of Modern Art.
