Swedish singer and songwriter Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson, born on 29 October 1987, is widely recognized by her stage name Tove Lo (/ЛЊtoКЉvЛ€loКЉ/ TOHV LOH, Swedish pronunciation: [ВІtuЛђvЙ› Л€luЛђ]). She spent her childhood in the affluent Djursholm area of Danderyd Municipality, located just north of Stockholm, where she completed her education at the specialized music school Rytmus Musikergymnasiet. In 2006, Lo established the rock group Tremblebee. After the band's dissolution, she shifted focus to songwriting and secured a publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011. Collaborating with producers such as Alexander Kronlund, Max Martin, and Xenomania, Lo achieved success as a songwriter while simultaneously creating and independently releasing her own material. By 2014, she had joined Martin's songwriting team Wolf Cousins and received an offer for a recording contract with Island Records and Polydor.

Lo gained widespread attention following the release of her debut album Queen of the Clouds in October 2014, which debuted at number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the breakthrough single "Habits (Stay High)," which reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Alongside her solo endeavors, Lo has co-written several tracks for other artists including Hilary Duff’s "Sparks" and Ellie Goulding’s "Love Me like You Do," earning her first Grammy nomination at the 58th Grammy Awards. To date, she has worked with various artists such as Coldplay, Flume, Alesso, Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert, Years & Years, Seven Lions, Broods, Lucas Nord, Urban Cone., and Wiz Khalifa.

Described by Rolling Stone as "Sweden's darkest pop export," Lo is recognized for her gritty approach to pop music that incorporates elements of grunge influences. Her candid lyrical themes are often personal and complex; this led to media outlets labeling her as "the saddest girl in Sweden."
