Puerto Rican actress, singer, model, author, and beauty queen Dayanara Torres Delgado (born October 28, 1974 in San Juan) is known for winning Miss Universe in 1993.

At the age of 17, Torres was noticed while strolling through Plaza de Toa Alta in her hometown and received an invitation to represent Toa Alta at the annual Miss Puerto Rico pageant. She emerged victorious in that competition and earned the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico at the Miss Universe pageant in 1993. In addition to this achievement, she participated as a semi-finalist in the Miss International pageant in 1992 and secured second place at the Queen of the World contest that same year.

Torres claimed victory at the Miss Universe event held in Mexico City during May 1993. Her win sparked some debate regarding her status as a minor; however, she had reached adulthood several months prior to competing. Following her title win, she quickly became highly popular in the Philippines. There were also questions surrounding her success since she did not score highest across all segments of the pageant. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, she was honored with a celebratory parade.

Throughout and following her tenure as Miss Universe, Torres served as an ambassador for UNICEF and traveled extensively throughout Asia and Latin America advocating for children’s rights. She established the Dayanara Torres Foundation which has offered scholarships to underprivileged students both in Puerto Rico and the Philippines. In 1994, she visited Manila to crown her successor at Miss Universe where she performed "A Whole New World" alongside Peabo Bryson during the ceremony.
