American rapper and actress Shawntae Harris, known professionally as Da Brat, was born on April 14, 1974. She spent her formative years in Chicago, Illinois, where she started her professional work in 1992 after joining So So Def Records. Her first album, Funkdafied (1994), achieved sales of one million copies, making her the first female solo artist in rap to earn a platinum certification and the second overall female rap artist (either solo or group) following Salt-N-Pepa. Da Brat has received nominations for two Grammy Awards. She has also secured two top ten placements on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Funkdafied" and "Not Tonight Ladies Night Remix," collaborating with Lil' Kim, Lisa Lopes, Missy Elliott, and Angie Martinez on the latter track. Additionally, she found commercial success with other tracks such as "I Think They Like Me" and a remix of Mariah Carey's "Loverboy."
