American screenwriter Diablo Cody, born Brook Busey-Maurio on June 14, 1978, is also a producer, director, author, journalist, memoirist, and former exotic dancer. She gained initial recognition through her open recounting of her experiences as a dancer in "The Pussy Ranch" blog and her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper (2005). Subsequently, Cody received critical acclaim for her first screenplay Juno (2007), earning accolades including the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, the BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay, the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Additionally, she is recognized for developing and producing Showtime's series United States of Tara (2009–2011) as well as writing and producing Jennifer's Body (2009) and Young Adult (2011). For Young Adult, she secured another nomination for the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay. Her directorial debut came with Paradise on October 18, 2013.
