Canadian model and actress Dorothy Stratten, born Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten on February 28, 1960, passed away on August 14, 1980. Under the name Dorothy Stratten, she gained recognition as Playboy's Playmate of the Month in August 1979 and was named Playmate of the Year in 1980; she was also one of the first Playmates from the 1960s alongside Lee Ann Michelle. Stratten featured in three comedic films and made appearances in at least two episodes of programs aired on US television networks. She died at age 20 due to a violent incident involving her estranged husband and manager Paul Snider, who took his own life that same day. Her tragic story led to the creation of two films.
